Have just read about earthquakes in California, and was wondering how on earth standing under a doorframe is going to help you..?
I am sure I will be back writing when I have read the rest of dooce's blog.

About standing under a doorframe - its supposed to remain standing when the rest of the house collapses. Same theory with hiding under a table - even during the Blitz in London those were the places you had to go if you had no bombshelter or time to get to one. The doorframe is reinforced with a lintel above it so its more sturdy than the rest of the walls etc.
